Seasons and Cycles

Updated: Apr 4, 2023

Just as the seasons of a woman's lifetime bring their own unique beauty and challenges, so do the seasons of her menstrual cycle. Each month, a woman's body goes through a cycle of hormonal changes that can affect her mood, energy level, and physical sensations. Understanding these changes can help women to feel more in tune with their bodies and better able to navigate the ups and downs of their cycle.

Here are the four seasons of a woman's menstrual cycle, and what they mean:

  1. Spring: The season of renewal and growth

The first week of a woman's cycle is like the spring season, a time of renewal and growth. As estrogen levels begin to rise, the lining of the uterus begins to thicken in preparation for a potential pregnancy. Women may feel a burst of energy and optimism during this phase, as well as a desire for new experiences and challenges.

  1. Summer: The season of abundance and fertility

The second week of a woman's cycle is like the summer season, a time of abundance and fertility. Estrogen levels continue to rise, peaking around ovulation, which typically occurs around day 14 of a 28-day cycle. Women may feel more sensual and outgoing during this phase, with a heightened sense of desire and attraction.

  1. Fall: The season of change and introspection

The third week of a woman's cycle is like the fall season, a time of change and introspection. As estrogen levels begin to decline and progesterone levels rise, women may feel more reflective and introspective, focusing on their inner world rather than their outer accomplishments. Physical symptoms such as bloating, cramping, and breast tenderness may also occur during this phase.

  1. Winter: The season of rest and renewal

The fourth week of a woman's cycle is like the winter season, a time of rest and renewal. If pregnancy does not occur, estrogen and progesterone levels drop, and the lining of the uterus sheds, resulting in menstruation. Women may feel more tired and introspective during this phase, with a need for rest and self-care. It's a time to let go of the old and make space for the new.

By understanding the seasons of their menstrual cycle, women can better prepare for and manage the physical and emotional changes that occur each month. Practicing self-care, such as getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and engaging in gentle exercise, can help women to feel more balanced and energized throughout their cycle.

In addition, tracking their menstrual cycle using a calendar, app, or journal can help women to anticipate when they will experience each season and plan accordingly. By honoring and working with their natural rhythms, women can feel more empowered and in control of their bodies and their lives.
